In heavy industrial plants, such as steel mills or cement factories, the safety of operation workers during their daily inspection routines is a top priority. Walkways and catwalks are critical transit zones. However, fine particulates in the air can quickly exceed safe Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) if a material leak occurs. Plant managers require a highly sensitive, durable monitoring solution that can alert personnel immediately without false alarms, while seamlessly connecting to the plant's central control system.

To address this, we deployed our industrial-grade fixed dust detector directly onto the catwalk guardrails. Calibrated to a highly sensitive 0-20 mg/m3 range, this device is perfectly suited to track the minute concentrations of respirable dust that pose long-term health risks.
Instant Visual and Audible Alerts: The device is equipped with a highly visible top-mounted sound and light alarm. Instead of relying on vibration alarms—which are often unnoticeable in heavy industry—the piercing sound and bright flashing light immediately cut through the noisy factory environment, warning workers to don PPE or evacuate.
IP66 Rated Durability: Heavy industry means heavy cleaning and harsh weather. Upgraded to a strict IP66 rating, the enclosure is fully protected against heavy dust ingress and high-pressure water jets during routine plant washdowns.
Ex-Proof Design: Certified for hazardous areas, ensuring safe operation even if the surrounding atmospheric conditions change.
Hardware is only half the solution; data integration is the other. This detector features a standard 4-20mA analog signal output, paired with a distinct RS485 communication address. This dual-output capability allowed the client to easily wire the detectors directly into their existing industrial automation systems, such as standard Siemens S7-1214 PLCs.
When the 4-20mA signal spikes, indicating a rising dust concentration, the PLC can automatically trigger localized exhaust fans or log the event for the environmental health and safety (EHS) team.
By installing our fixed dust detectors along critical inspection walkways, the plant successfully shifted from reactive safety measures to proactive occupational health monitoring. The combination of precise 0-20 mg/m3 sensing, reliable IP66 protection, and robust 4-20mA PLC integration creates a safer, data-driven environment for every worker on the floor.
